Overview of the Tour itinerary
Distance: 54 km & estimated driving time: 1 hour
Altitude at Thimphu: 2330 m
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly received by your Bhutanese guide and driven to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. En route, stop at Chunzom, the scenic confluence of the Paro (Pa Chhu) and Thimphu (Wang Chhu) rivers, before following the Wang Chhu valley to Thimphu.
After hotel check-in and refreshment, visit Simtokha Dzong, Bhutan’s oldest dzong, built in 1629 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to subdue an evil spirit and protect travelers.
Continue to Buddha Dordenma at Kuenselphodrang, a 51.5-meter-tall gilded bronze statue overlooking Thimphu Valley. The throne houses a meditation hall and the site is believed to fulfill an ancient 8th-century prophecy, radiating peace and harmony.
Proceed to the National Institute for Zorig Chusum, where students train in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts and crafts. After lunch, explore the lively Centenary Farmers’ Market, followed by a short walk to Changlimithang Stadium to observe an archery match, Bhutan’s national sport.
Later, visit the Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan’s rare national animal. In the late afternoon, stroll through Thimphu city and browse the Craft Bazaar for authentic Bhutanese handicrafts.
In the evening, witness the National Flag Lowering Ceremony at Tashichhoe Dzong, the seat of Bhutan’s government and monastic body.

Distance: 54 km & estimated driving time: 1 hour

According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew here on a tigress in the 8th century and meditated in a cave. Despite fire damage in 1998, the monastery was carefully restored, preserving sacred relics and murals.
After exploring Taktsang, descend for lunch and later enjoy a leisurely walk through Paro town.
In the evening, visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse to experience a Bhutanese hot stone bath, a deeply therapeutic cultural practice, followed by a home-cooked traditional dinner with your hosts.
