Day 1 :Arrival at Paro & Paro to Thimphu Cultural Exploration, overnight at a hotel in Thimphu
Overview of the Tour itinerary

Paro-Thimphu Distance: 54 km & estimated driving time: 1 hour
Altitude at Thimphu: 2330 m
Upon arrival at Paro airport,you will be warmly received by our tour guide and driver from Access Bhutan Tours & Treks-your Bhutan travel operator- you will drive to Thimphu, passing through Chunzom, the confluence of the Paro River (Pachu) and the Thimphu River (Wangchu). On the way, enjoy walking over a suspension bridge to view 15th century iron chain bridge suspended over the Pa chu near Tamchog Monastery and you may visit the monastery.
After crossing Chunzom, the drive follows the Wangchu River, offering picturesque views as you make your way to Thimphu city.
Upon arrival at Thimphu check into your hotel.
After lunch visit Buddha Dordenma at Kuenselphodrang: This massive Buddha statue is 51.5 meters in height and it is one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The statue is made of bronze and is gilded in gold. The throne that the Buddha Dordenma sits upon is a large meditation hall.

Next visit Centenary Farmers’ Market:The bustling Centenary Farmers’ Market is where much of Thimphu’s population and many valley dwellers gather to buy and sell fresh produce. Farmers from neighboring areas bring their harvest to this vibrant market, offering a wide variety of local fruits, vegetables, and other farm products.
A visit to the market provides excellent photo opportunities and a chance to experience local life up close, as you mingle with farmers and shoppers in this lively setting.
At 5:00 pm watch the National Flag Lowering Ceremony at Tashichhoe Dzong, a fortress of the glorious religion. It was built in 1641 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and was reconstructed into present structure by the late King, His majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck in the year 1962-1969. It houses the secretariat building, the throne room and the office of the king, and the central monk body.

Day 2: Journey to Punakha Cultural Exploration, overnight at a hotel in Punakha

After breakfast, embark on a scenic 35-minute drive to Dochula Pass (3,140m). On a clear spring morning, you’ll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan Mountain range.
From here continue your journey toward Punakha, descending into a warmer climate as you reach the picturesque Lobesa village upon arrival. You will then visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse, where you will experience the warmth of rural hospitality as the host family prepares a hearty, authentic Bhutanese lunch.
After lunch, take a leisurely 20-minute walk through Sopsokha village to visit Chimi Lhakhang in Sopsokha village, the renowned Divine Madman’s Monastery. Known as a fertility shrine, the temple is believed to bless visitors seeking fertility, making it a significant spiritual site in Bhutan.Sopsokha, a charming village nestled amid picturesque paddy fields near Lobesa. According to legend, the famous Divine Madman, Lama Drukpa Kinley, was pursued by a demoness until he reached Sopsokha. It was here that he subdued the malevolent spirit using his symbolic phallus as a tool of discipline. To commemorate this victory, Chimi Lhakhang (the Fertility Temple) was later built on the exact site by Lama Ngawang Chogyal, the Divine Madman’s elder brother.
Later in the afternoon, embark on a short uphill hike to Rinchengang Village, a charming, clustered settlement located opposite Wangduephodrang Dzong. This historic village is renowned for its skilled stone craftsmen, who have preserved the art of traditional Bhutanese stonework for generations.
As you walk through the village, enjoy the breathtaking views of Wangduephodrang Dzong and the serene Wangdue Valley, with the river meandering through its lush landscape. Along the way, engage in free interaction with the friendly villagers, gaining insight into their way of life, craftsmanship, and cultural traditions.

Day 3: Short Nature Hike & Immersive village Experience, Journey to Thimphu, overnight at a hotel in Thimphu

Punakha-Thimphu Distance: 71 km, estimated driving time: 2 hr

After breakfast drive through the scenic upper Punakha Valley and take a leisurely walk across a suspension bridge, passing through lush paddy fields on your way to the stunning Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Lhakhang. The gentle uphill walk to the temple takes about an hour, offering a peaceful and immersive experience amidst nature.
Upon reaching the temple, explore its exquisite architecture and soak in the breathtaking panoramic views of the valley below. The vantage point provides a perfect setting for photography, capturing the serene beauty of Punakha’s landscape.
After picnic lunch by the riverside,head to Punakha Dzong to visit Punakha Dzong, also known as Pungthang Dewachen Phodrang (Palace of Great Happiness). Perched at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (Male River) and Mo Chhu (Female River), this architectural masterpiece is not only Bhutan’s oldest and largest Dzong but also one of its most spiritually and historically significant. The Dzong houses sacred relics that played a pivotal role in Bhutan’s history, making it a site of deep cultural and religious reverence.
From the Dzong, take a scenic 15-minute walk to one of Bhutan’s longest suspension bridges, spanning 350 meters high above the swift-flowing Pho Chu. Draped in colorful prayer flags, the bridge connects Punakha Dzong to the nearby village of Lungkha. Primarily used by locals as a shortcut, the bridge offers stunning views of the valley and river below.
Immerse yourself in the tranquility of Lungkha village by strolling through its lush paddy fields and engaging in conversations with friendly farmers. Many households welcome visitors into their homes, offering traditional butter tea and local snacks, providing a glimpse into Bhutanese rural life.
Later in the afternoon travel back to Thimphu through the picturesque villages of Nobding,Toeb Thinleygang and Dochula Pass, enjoying scenic landscapes along the way.
In the evening stroll through bustling Thimphu city and also visit craft Baazar –A one stop place to witness Bhutanese culture and buy Bhutan made art and craft product. The Bazaar in its 80 stalls covers all aspects of the traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan. At this Bazaar craftsmen and artisans from across the country display and sell their handicrafts.

Day 4: Thimphu-Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery, overnight at hotel in Paro

Thimphu-Paro Distance: 54 km & estimated driving time: 1 hour

Altitude at Taktsang:3000m
After breakfast, drive for 1 hour to the base of Taktsang Monastery, famously known as the Tiger’s Nest. Begin your hike, which takes approximately 1.5 hours to reach the viewpoint, where you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the monastery perched dramatically on the cliffside. Stop for refreshments at the Viewpoint Cafeteria before continuing the ascent. The final stretch to the monastery takes another 1.5 hours.
According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew to this site on the back of a tigress in the 8th century and meditated in a cave here for three months. The principal monastery of the present complex dates back to 1692. Though severely damaged by fire in 1998, Taktsang has since been fully restored to its former glory.
After exploring the monastery, descend to the Viewpoint Cafeteria for lunch before continuing your walk back to the base.
Later, visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse, upon arrival you will be welcomed with traditional Bhutanese tea and snacks, providing a warm introduction to Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage. After the tea, engage yourself in Bhutan’s National Sport by trying your hand at Archery, using traditional bows & arrows crafted from bamboo.
