The Jomolhari–Laya–Gasa Trek is one of Bhutan’s most rewarding long-distance treks, combining spectacular Himalayan scenery with rich cultural and natural experiences. The route takes trekkers through the sacred region of Jomolhari, the remote highland village of Laya, and onward to Gasa, where the trek concludes at the famous Gasa hot springs, believed by Bhutanese to have medicinal and healing properties.
The journey begins in lush subtropical forests and gradually transitions into alpine landscapes as the trail gains altitude. Along the way, trekkers pass through pristine valleys, high mountain passes, and diverse vegetation zones rich in orchids and other Himalayan flora. The principal monastery of the present complex dates back to 1692. Though severely damaged by fire in 1998, Taktsang has since been fully restored to its former glory.
After exploring the monastery, descend to the Viewpoint Cafeteria for lunch before continuing your walk back to the base.
Later, visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse, upon arrival you will be welcomed with traditional Bhutanese tea and snacks, providing a warm introduction to Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage.
